Pot Luck Food Recipes
Your hostess will appreciate you bringing something for guests to munch on before the big meal is served. Candied nuts are both addictive and easy to make. Heat your oven to 350 degrees and line a baking pan with parchment paper. You can also use foil and cooking spray. Boil any nuts you choose for three minutes and then drain. We enjoy a mix of pecans, walnuts and almonds. In a separate bowl combine 1/8 tsp cinnamon, 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper (if desired), 1/8 tsp black pepper, and ? cup powdered sugar. Add the nuts to the bowl and stir to coat evenly. Place on baking sheet and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. When they are done, sprinkle them with sea salt and allow to cool.
You can impress your friends with a fruit dip that actually takes only seconds to make. Empty two large containers of sour cream in to a bowl and add about ? cup of brown sugar. Stir and taste. Continue to add brown sugar until it is ?just right.? Serve with cut fruit. Your friends will try to guess what is in this amazing dip and will probably never realize just how easy it is.
My mother used to bring a plate of cheese to parties ? but not just any cheese. It was the classic cream cheese, jalape?o jelly and Triscuit plate. Guests can slice off a piece of cheese and place it on the Triscuit. When they add the jalape?o jelly to the top it turns a plain old cracker into something completely mouth watering ? and easy! You can also serve this with marmalade, strawberry jam, apple butter or even pumpkin butter.
Deviled eggs may seem like picnic food, but consider it for the next pot luck. In my house there is usually a fight to get the last deviled egg. To make the plate interesting, try a few ?flavors,? ranging from curry powder and mayonnaise to mustard with a touch of vinegar. You can also mix tuna with the egg yolk and mayo to make the eggs even heartier.
For a little ?flash,? purchase a pack of flour tortillas and some cream cheese. Spread cream cheese on a tortilla. Add some crushed pineapple and pepperoni slices, rolling up the tortilla once this is done. Refrigerate for an hour and then slice in to pinwheels. You can add just about anything to these hors d’oeuvres. Try cream cheese and peanut butter, pimento spread and sliced green olives or cream cheese, coconut, mini marshmallows and pineapple.
